SEND in Computer Science

All lessons are available on Google classroom in an accessible format so students have access to all the information they need.

Teachers know their students and are aware of the information in their ILPs and will ensure strategies are used wherever possible.

Scaffolded help sheets are provided for coding for the majority of lessons so that everyone is able to make progress in their computer science lessons. Sentence starter strips are available for the extended writing tasks and writing tasks can be undertaken using the computers rather than written.

Key vocabulary is explicitly taught and revisited throughout the lessons using choral response and/or mini whiteboards.

SEND in Maths

In Maths, we focus on building secure understanding through clear explanations, well-sequenced small steps, and regular checking for understanding. Lessons include plenty of modelling and guided practice so that all students, including those with SEND, can access the learning.

We use consistent routines, visual representations, and scaffolded tasks to support working memory and reduce unnecessary cognitive load. Key vocabulary is introduced explicitly and revisited regularly to strengthen confidence and fluency.

Where appropriate, teachers adapt tasks, provide scaffolded examples, or offer alternative methods of recording to ensure that every student can demonstrate their understanding. The aim is for students with SEND to feel successful, to make strong progress, and to develop confidence in applying their mathematical knowledge independently.

SEND in Science

In Science SEND students are supported by various methods:

KS4: Year 10 have booklets with core knowledge, key terms and modelled examples in. In Year 11 all students are given more independence in their note taking, using teacher modelled examples to support their independent practice. Key vocabulary is displayed every lesson and referred to and practised using choral response. Mini whiteboards are used to check for understanding.

KS3: Teacher modeled examples to support student independent practice with sentences starters and structure strips for extended writing tasks. Key vocabulary is displayed every lesson and referred to and practised using choral response. Mini whiteboards are used to check for understanding.
