Whether you are about to send your child to school for the first time, or moving into the area with older children, you are always welcome to come and have a look around our school. Once you decide you would like a place you must make a formal application. A fresh application must be made for children who not moving on from our Year 6 to Year 7 / Year 11 to Post-16 education in Year 12 here.
Admissions
As a secondary school there are two main routes that students can take to join us. If the student is in Primary School and wants to join us at the beginning of Year 7 or if they want to join our Post-16 at the end of Key Stage 4 then they are considered a Normal Round Admission, any students applying to join us at any other time are an In-Year Admission.
All applications for admission to years 7-11 at Okehampton College must be made via Devon County Council’s Admissions team, for more information please visit their website or call the Education Helpline on 0345 155 1019.

If your child is in one of the Primary Schools which act as feeder schools for Okehampton College, you will be sent details of how to apply during the first weeks of September of their last year of Primary School. The closing date for applications is normally the end of October (the specific dates will be different each year, please check the admissions website or call the Education Helpline for the most up-to-date information) and it is recommended that you read the latest Step by Step booklet before completing the application.
During the application window you can apply online here or you can complete and return a Common Application Form (CAF) to your child’s Primary School. You can also send a CAF directly to the Admissions team: School Admissions Team, Room L102, County Hall, Exeter, EX2 4QU.
In-year Admissions
If you have recently moved into our catchment area, are about to move into our catchment area, or live in another College’s catchment area but want to transfer to Okehampton College you can apply for a place by going to the Devon Admissions website and selecting the Devon common application form (D-CAF). This form allows you to download and either complete and email a copy to admissions (admissions@devon.gov.uk) or to print a copy and send the completed form to the Admissions team (School Admissions Service, Room L102, County Hall, Exeter EX2 4QU.
We encourage any parent considering making an In-Year Application to contact us so that we can arrange for a visit to the school and a meeting with our Assistant Principal with responsibility for In-Year Admissions, Mr Corkell.

Once you decide you would like a place in any of our year groups, you must make a formal application. A fresh application must be made for children who are moving on from our Year 6 to their secondary school in Year 7.
Most children join our school at the normal round, the main intake into school from the start of September in Year 7. As a parent, you can apply for a place in our school through the Local Authority.
Applications for residents of Devon are made between 15 November and 15 January for primary schools at www.devon.gov.uk/admissionsonline.
Applications for residents of Devon are made between 1 September and 31 October for secondary schools at www.devon.gov.uk/admissionsonline.
If your child lives in another LA, including Cornwall, Dorset, Plymouth, Somerset, and Torbay you should apply through that council. The closing dates are the same nationally.

There is a right of appeal and to a place on a waiting list for places where an application is refused.

Devon is the admissions authority for our school. It has responsibility for the admissions policies and decisions on applications for admission. We have an admissions policy for each academic year and they will be published on this page when they are proposed for consultation and after they have been determined annually.
The Local Authority
We take part in the co-ordinated admissions schemes of Devon County Council. Devon County Council publishes information about admissions and its own policies to support the admissions application and appeals process. This is at www.devon.gov.uk/admissions

The Admissions Appeals Timetable 2026
The deadline for submitting appeals allows appellants at least 20 school days to prepare and submit a written appeal. The appeal must then be heard within 40 school days for the normal round and within 30 days for in-year admissions.
Normal round intake: Allocation date for Reception or junior school Year 3: 16 April 2026
Deadline for appeal forms to be submitted: 31 May 2026 Appeals will be heard within 40 school days, by: 24 July 2026
Where possible, appeals that are submitted after 31 May will be heard by 24 July. If that is not possible, they will be heard within 30 school days of the appeal form being submitted.
Allocation date for Year 7 intake or studio school / UTC Year 10: 2 March 2026
Deadline for appeal forms to be submitted: 20 April 2026 Appeals will be heard within 40 school days, by: 23 June 2026
Where possible, appeals that are submitted after 20 April will be heard by 23 June. If that is not possible, they will be heard within 30 school days of the appeal form being submitted.
School Admissions Policy 2027-28: Annual Consultation

Admissions Policy 2027-2028– Consultation
After the consultation, we will determine the policy at a meeting of the admissions authority held before the end of February 2026. Once determined, the policy will be updated online by 15 March 2026.
Objections can be made up to 15 May 2026 to the Office of the Schools’ Adjudicator.
